35 days ago we made a HUGE MOVE relocating our family across the country from California to Florida, and to be totally transparent, I’m suffering a little bit from the “New Town Blues”.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m feeling blessed and grateful that so many things have aligned to make the move as seamless as it has been, and our kids are adjusting W-A-Y better than I ever anticipated they would.
Moving is hard on everyone and especially challenging for teenagers, but they’ve been absolutely amazing with good attitudes and an overall very positive perspective on the radical change we made together.
Yet when I think of “home”, I still feel like I should live in Southern California. There are so many things I miss about my old life there (my friends, familiar places, the ideal weather), and after 13+ years of intentionally creating a life we loved there, I know it will take some adjusting to make this new location feel like “home”.
If you are anything like me, when I’m feeling down in the dumps, I don’t have much motivation to actually do anything…staying home, sipping wine, and watching reruns of “Love Island” from this summer is about all I have the energy to do…but guess what?
That’s not LIVING!
That’s not going to help me feel more connected to my new area or help me meet new friends and create a place in this community.
And when I’m feeling unmotivated to get off the couch, I frequently remember a quote from one of my favorite movies of all time, The Shawshank Redemption
“Get busy living, or get busy dying” - so simple, yet so true!
I know the best way for me to shift my perspective is to become very clear about what I want to create.
So I decided to do what I know how to do best...make a printable…and a plan! (and also get out of my pj’s) #overachiever
If you too need a little jump start whether it’s cause you’ve moved like me, or are still dealing with pandemic fatigue, or just need something fun to focus on, let me lay out the game plan that seems to work the best for me!
GET OUT OF A FUNK GAME PLAN:
1. First, I carve out a little quiet “me” time…
Well, this particular time, I spent some of that "me time" brainstorming with my husband because to be quite honest, he’s my only friend right now, and sometimes two heads are better than one…thank goodness we really like each other!
2. Get centered - I spend just a few minutes either meditating, visualizing or simply taking a few deep breaths to get grounded and calm. When you are creating an action plan for your life, it’s always optimal to be in a good place energetically.
3. Write main headings of the areas you want to focus on…(Health, Friends, Fun, Family, Etc). Choose the topics that resonate with you, or you can use my handy dandy printable below to make it even easier!
4. Have at it! Make a master list of all the things that sounds fun to do and place the ideas under each specific heading.
5. If you need some inspiration, I made a list of “50 Fun Fall Ideas” to get you rolling!
6. Once you’ve written down your ideas, place that list somewhere you will see it regularly…on your bathroom mirror so it’s the first thing you see in the morning, or on the fridge where your kids will see it and bug you to do some of the activities listed.
7. Just do it! Get your calendar out and start setting dates and times, and let the good times roll!
