My journey to healing my thyroid autoimmune disease has not been a straightforward path, and there were many setbacks along that way, but I have found four pivotal modalities in my holistic approach to reversing my illness and being in remission.
In March of 2019, my life took an unexpected detour when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.
It was a particularly scary experience that landed me in an ambulance, the ER, and ultimately in the hospital overnight. I share more of that story here in my blog post “Lessons from the Heart”.
My journey to healing my autoimmune disease has not been a straightforward path, and there were many setbacks along that way, especially during a period when I was under the medical care of a physician who just wasn’t a good match to my beliefs around healing.
There are SO many things I learned during that process that I share here if you or anyone you love is struggling to find true health.
Once I empowered myself to make a change and “break up” with my poorly matched endocrinologist, I was able to align with a more holistic practitioner and found the answers to fully resolve my thyroid disease and send my autoimmune illness into remission.
When I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroid autoimmune disease, I was told it was a forever disease that would have to be managed with drugs for the remainder of my life, and being the strong-willed, feisty lass that I am, I just wasn’t going to take that flawed perspective as “truth”.
I was determined to prove my ex-doctor wrong and truly get to the root cause of my illness.
I tried about everything I could to facilitate my body coming back to wellness, and in the course of about 18 months, I have found 4 pivotal cornerstones to my remission.

1. The Medical Medium Thyroid Healing Book
First and foremost, reading (and implementing) the book The Medical Medium Thyroid by Anthony William was the ultimate difference-maker.
This is not hyperbole when I say this book literally changed my life. It is hands-down my top recommendation for anyone suffering from any type of thyroid issue.
I spent THOUSANDS of dollars on medical specialists, supplements, holistic doctors, and lab work.
Most of those things were helpful, but it wasn’t until I read the Medical Medium book that I saw the resolution of EVERY SYMPTOM I had been experiencing and found TRUE HEALING.
I will give you a warning…if you are a spiritual skeptic and only believe what MDs and big Pharma tell you, then this is probably not the book for you.
You do need to read it with an open mind and an open heart knowing that your body is designed to be healthy.
There were so many “aha” moments for me reading this book that I will share in an upcoming post, and I will continue to expand on a few central ones below.
2. Food Triggers
After digesting every morsel of the Medical Medium book, I decided to experiment some with my diet.
Mind you, I was already a clean-eating Lacto-Ovo vegetarian, who had already eliminated dairy and gluten to see if I would feel any improvement, and sadly for me, removing those foods from my diet did not help…
I was still riddled with scary symptoms and my blood tests were still way out of normal range.
Per the suggestion of the MM Book, I decided to remove eggs from my daily intake…and HOLY MOLY…
within days EVERY SYMPTOM I was experience literally disappeared – so much for living with this for the rest of my life as my endocrinologist told me!!
Being a vegetarian, I was consuming eggs nearly every day as a source of protein.
I believe that my thyroid condition was triggered by the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), and according to the Medical Medium, EBV LOVES eggs and it literally “feeds” the virus.
I had no idea I was literally giving the thyroid-damaging virus sustenance!
I am happy to report that for my body, eliminating eggs was the “game-changer”, and I am now able to eat both gluten and dairy…removing them from my diet was not helpful. (because dang girl, you know I love me an occasional donut or milkshake)
Reminder: Each body is different, and I do know many people who swear that both dairy and gluten are huge triggers for them.
So I would definitely recommend experimenting with your diet to see what works best for you, but please don’t let a medical professional convince you that your food intake isn’t important because it is!!
One dietary change literally stopped all of my physical suffering.
3. Decrease Inflammation
Another recommendation from the MM book (Do you see a theme here? Seriously, go buy the darn book, if you haven’t) that was instrumental in my healing was incorporating anti-inflammatory foods…specifically celery juice.
I am sure you have heard of the “celery juice craze” which makes it sound like a passing fad, but it is NO fad for me.
I continue to celery juice 3-4 times a week to keep my autoimmune in remission.
*Help Hint* – It is important to drink FRESH celery juice – preferably organic on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. I know it is much easier to buy the store brand of pre-squeezed juice, but I have found it to not be as beneficial.
For years, I used an old Jack Lalane juicer that my husband and I purchased when we were first wed (we’ve been married for 22 years to give you a context of how ancient it was), and although it did the trick, it was really hard to clean which made it very labor-intensive.
Luckily for me, that old juicer bit the dust, and I found one that is SOOOO easy to use and very simple to clean.
It takes a fraction of the time to make my celery juice, so I would HIGHLY encourage you to invest in a good juicer. Here is the one I currently have and I love it!!
Once I changed to a holistic MD, she had me on an extensive protocol of supplements.

She also prescribed low-dose Naltrexone which has been proven to shut off autoimmune responses.
I am very leery of pretty much anything pharmaceutical, but after extensive research on my end, I did start incorporating Naltrexone with my other supplements which I think has been very helpful in my multi-faceted approach to healing.
*I am a HUGE believer in the power of positive thought and that it’s important to look at the “energy” of healing.
So, I also incorporated practices like guided healing meditations like this one (I know, it’s a bit “woo woo”, but I love it) and other healing modalities like visualization, reiki, and essential oils.
Although I found all of those to be helpful, they were not the most vital components of reversing my autoimmune. *
It has now been 2 1/2 years since my original diagnosis of Hashimoto’s and honestly, I often look back at the journey and am filled with gratitude that I was able to heal my body despite what I was told by so many “experts” in the medical field.
