Easy Home Office Organization – Purge Party Week #10

Need help tidying, decluttering & organizing your office? Here is a simple how-to process with 5 easy steps for office organization.

office organization

Let’s get it started in here!!

It’s Week 10 of the Purge Party, and we are focusing on the home office organization or craft room if you have one of those instead…wherever you get work done!!!

Decluttering and organizing office spaces can feel a bit overwhelming but let’s just keep it simple, sister and break it down into 5 EASY-PEASY steps!!

#1 – Start with the End in Mind

Let’s just pretend we are making a cake instead of purging the office, (sounds like a yummy alternative, right?)

And what do you do prior to anything else…before you get out the ingredients, or measure, or mix or bake?

You imagine how great the cake is going to look, smell, feel, and taste!

Well, I want you to do the same with organizing your office….simply visualize how neat and tidy it’s going to feel…and look…and be!!

This vision will help carry you through this purge process, and if you are ever in doubt during this journey, come back to this vision of the end product and it will help you stay the course!

#2 – Music to My Ears

“Let’s groove tonight, share the spice of life”

Aw yeah, I can just hear those Earth, Wind, & Fire hits now.

You know what turns this mundane task into a PART-TAY?

Some music to motivate you, of course!!!

Turn on the tunes that put you in a good mood, and make you feel like you can tackle the world (or at least tackle the mess in your office!)

“Do you remember the 21st night of September?”…Sorry, I just can’t help myself when it comes to 70’s disco music!

#3 – Grab Your Supplies

Next up, step #3….grab your supplies!!

You honestly don’t need much to purge any room in your house… get some boxes/containers and label them to sort all of the stuff you no longer need or want!!

I label mine like this… Recycle –  Retail –  Relocate – Rubbish

(I’m a sucker for alliteration), but mark yours with whatever labels resonate with you!!

#4 – Be a Hard Ass

So here we are at step #4, and we still haven’t touched an item…see how simple this is?

But now it’s time to ROCK and ROLL and get going!!

Your job now is to remove EVERY SINGLE item from each shelf, cabinet, cupboard, drawer! I

know this sounds like some type of terrible punishment, but honestly it’s not! It is an essential part of the purge process.

You need to touch every possession in your office and decide whether it’s necessary and useful or not!

Offices are magnets for accumulating of all sorts of things you DO NOT need….old manuals, past purchase receipts, expired coupons, old calendars…it’s time to release that clutter and reclaim your space!

Take it all ALL out and then use those labeled boxes to sort all of the things that you are letting go. This is your time to be a “hard ass” and only keep the things you truly love and use!

Having a clean work space will be well worth the hard work and effort!
