It’s 2021!!! (Can I get a “Thank the Lord”!?!?)

For me, this time of year is always filled with reflection on the past and renewed optimism for a clean slate in the upcoming year.

And after the shitshow that was 2020, I have never been more excited to say goodbye to a year than this one! #seeya2020

As I look back over the last year, I’ve gotta take a hard look at how I showed up, and to be honest, it was a year of FLOUNDERING for me…

I mean I did the basics…my family was fed and cared for…my dog got a walk each day…bills were paid on time…but much more than the bare minimum, I don’t have much to show for 2020.

It’s not something I am going to be too hard on myself for, because after all, we survived a global pandemic, and here in California, most of the year we were in some sort of lockdown or stay-at-home orders of one kind or another.

So I’m definitely going to give myself a pass for being a bit lazy and unmotivated.

Heck, just making it to 2021 in one piece is cause for a round of applause! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

But the truth is, 2020 was not a year filled with much fun….or laughter…or meaning…

It was a “get through it” survival year for me.

And one year of that is P-L-E-N-T-Y for me…

I know I need to do something different this year, and I’m committed to being more present and focused. Not because I think I need to be a certain way, but because being active and engaged just makes me happier, and a big ole dose of JOY is just what I need to start this year.

When thinking about what brings me happiness and the feeling like I matter, two things immediately come to mind…

1. Having Structure

2. Feeling Productive

Pandemic fatigue has become an (unwanted) daily companion to me, and I decided I need a plan to feel like my life has meaning and purpose.

So you know what this calls for…

Seriously, ya’ll know how much I love me a good reason to make a printable, and I’m going to start off this year right by having a plan that is solid and concrete.

I was recently reading how having a “theme” each day of the week can help you be more productive, and it helps you utilize your time better, so I decided to give it a whirl and put that theory to the test!

Here’s my breakdown of the theme each day for the month of January:

Sunday - Self-Care (Do something that nurtures yourself)

Monday - Mindful (Engage in an activity that makes you more present)

Tuesday - Toss-It (Purge an area of your life)

Wednesday - Wellness (Focus on making healthy choices)

Thursday - Tackle-It (Complete a project)

Friday - Future (Do one thing your future self will thank you for)

Saturday - Sanitize (Clean one area of your home)

Not only do I love printables, I'm a total sucker for alliteration too...can you tell?

So what do you think?

It doesn’t sound too hard, right?

I even made a calendar that I have sitting on my desk to keep me on track!

I’ve attached a copy of it if you want to join in…

Or I added a blank one so you can fill in your own daily tasks.

So, what do you predict?

Think this little plan of mine will help me get my life mojo back? (I’m praying so, and I’ll keep you posted!)

Until next time, cheers to no more floundering, and cheers to you! 🥂

OMG!!! 🥳 It’s 2021 and I bet, like me, you are ready to really rock this new year and forget any memory of 2020! #worstyearever

So you know what’s the first thing I did to get my shiznit together for the NEW YEAR??

Hire a personal assistant??

Nah, girl, that’s not in my budget!!

Booked a week-long workshop on productivity?

Nope - this chica doesn’t have time for that!

(Note: The links in this post are Amazon affiliate links, and we will be compensated when you make a purchase by clicking through our links at no cost to you. Read our full disclaimer policy here.)

Like the kind you buy online or in a store with legit printed pages and stuff…and that’s not all, it even has calendar stickers!!

Can I get a WOO WOO!?!? 🙌🏼

I know it sounds super lame-o that I am so excit-a-balls about a planner (clearly I need to get a life), but for the last few years, I’ve been just printing out weekly calendars and to-do lists from my computer…

ya’ know to save money and because I thought it was just an unnecessary expense.

Which was all well and good and did the trick (kind-of), but honestly it’s hard to have much continuity day to day, week to week, and month to month with a hodgepodge do-it-yourself half-ass calendar (with no stickers👎🏼!).

So that’s why I decided to get a bit more serious about my time management game and purchase a real-life, grown-up planner!

After reading quite a few reviews from various sites ( I recommend this list of reviews if you are looking for a new planner too), I decided to purchase the Amy Knapp Family Organizer from Amazon

And to really up my get-your-life-together game even more, I got myself some fine line pens to color code my “new best friend” (aka planner)!

So, mamas, I’m just a few days in, but so far, I’m loving this new improved ultra-organized version of myself!

And let me tell you why…

if you don’t have a planner, do yourself a favor, and give one to yourself…or better yet, do what I do…buy it for yourself but act like your kids bought it for you!!

Seems like less of a splurge that way!

Honestly, now is the perfect time to get one because they are all on HUGE discounts because the new year has already started, so grabbing a new one won’t break the new year budget!

Well, you’re probably wondering why I’m so freakin' gung-ho about having a planner - so, let me break it down for ya’... why every mom needs a real planner!!

Why Every Dang Mama Needs a Planner

1. Get ‘Er Done

When you have one location that you keep your schedule, important information, upcoming events, to-do lists, menu ideas, and grocery lists, you just get more things done because your planner becomes your one-stop-shop for keeping it all organized!

Having a planner streamlines so many areas of your life and helps you just get more stuff done!

2. Your Backup Brain

The busier I am, the more I forget important things like birthdays, anniversaries, appointments…and when you’ve got a planner, you don’t have to keep all of those dates in your brain…let your planner be your memory - lessen your brain drain and let the planner do the work!!

Embarrassingly missing a friend’s birthday will be a thing of the past because “Claire’s Birthday” is staring at you every time you look at your planner!

3. Keep Track of the Details

If you are like me, you find yourself writing down random things on post-it notes or little pieces of paper…and invariably they get lost and so does that vital info!

Having a planner gives you one spot to keep track of those little things that you aren’t sure where to write them down!

I find now that I keep track of books I want to read, podcasts I want to listen to, and other little lists and reminders in my planner. Adios missing post-it notes!! 👋🏻

4. Plan Ahead

Possibly the most dreaded three words for many moms…er, well, at least they are for me...

“What’s for dinner”?

When you have a planner, you are more likely to not only plan your calendar activities ahead of time but you have space to plan meals and grocery lists too!

My new planner actually has a perforated menu and grocery list, so it makes it so simple to stay on top of the meal planning!

5. Faking It

We’ve all heard the phrase - “Fake it ’til you make it”….well, owning a planner evokes the same idea.

If you look like an uber-organized mom with your professional planner, you will start acting like one!! For real-io!

No joke!! If you spend the money to purchase a planner and spend the time to carry it with you, then you are going to feel the urge to actually start using it, and getting your life a little more together!!

Before you know it, your friends will all be asking “how do you do it all”…and little do they know, it’s all because you bought yourself a planner!!

So what’s the verdict, mamas??

Do you have a planner??

Do you use it??

What kinds of things do you track in it??

Let me know if you think I overlooked anything on my list!!

And until next time, cheers to getting your shiznit together, and cheers to you!🥂

How to Choose Your One Word of Intention!

And just like that, BAM!...another year is in the books...and let's be honest, we are ALL ready to say goodbye to 2020. 👋🏼 #byebiatch #2020yousuck

Although I love me some holiday festivities, there is something about the change to a New Year that REALLY makes me excited... (especially this year...I mean, 2021 can't come soon enough...right?!?)

Why do I love the New Year so much?

Well, I guess it feels like a blank page is waiting for's a time to realign with what I am about and what I'd like to see manifest in my life.

It's kind of like a "reset" button in many ways giving me a new, shiny, fresh start...

(and I can leave behind all the "hang-xiety" filled memories after too many glasses of wine #truestory 🍷🤦🏻‍♀️🍷).

I also cherish this time of year because I give myself space and time to really reflect on the past year and to envision what I want to bring forth in my life and who I want to be in the upcoming year.

New Year's Resolutions??

Me no likey "Resolutions" 🙅🏻‍♀️

I said adios to "resolutions" a long time ago...because honestly, I know by January 2nd at 11 AM (yes that's the exact time this happens) I will be beating myself up for sneaking a cookie, or watching the Real Housewives, or some other meaningless "forbidden" activity that wasn't on my resolutions list...and

...anything that feels restrictive, confining, and a "have to" in my book is NO freaking BUENO!!

So, what I've found works best for me is to find ONE WORD that I intend to embody or focus on for the year as a constant reminder of what I want to create more of in my life.

And with words like Love, Dream, Vision in the English language, how can you possibly choose one to symbolize your upcoming year??

* Funny Side Note*, my word for 2020 was "Expansion"...I mean seriously, could there be a worse word for the year of curfews, lockdowns, and quarantines??

To me, it's a perfect reminder (or more like a practical joke) from God, the Universe, Mother Earth, Buddha, (whatever spiritual power you believe in) to not take yourself too seriously...and to lighten up on the whole "life" thing!

Well anywho, back to the point of this blog post... I'd love to share with you my process of narrowing down my ONE WORD....and how I practically and easily integrate it into my daily life.

1. Get Centered and Visualize

The very first step is to take some quiet, alone time for yourself so you can really be present and focus on your past year's successes and shortcomings, and then envision what your dream life looks like in 2021.

I often do a short, reflective meditation and then spend a few minutes simply visualize what my best life looks like (Don't know how to meditate yet? Well, I'll be writing more about this powerful practice later, so in the meantime just sit quietly in a calm, dimly-lit, cozy place, close your eyes, breathe, and don't fall asleep! 😴).

2. Write Down Wins/Misses of the Year and Vision for Upcoming Year

Once I have taken the time to have a clear vision, I start writing down my thoughts on "My One Word Worksheet" (below) about the previous year and what I hope for in the New Year. (The first two boxes in the worksheet below)

3. Brainstorm "One Word" Possibilities

Next, I write down a list of words that I want to either emulate or bring forth in the New Year...I've created a "My Word Brainstorm Sheet" you can use to simplify the process if that helps!

(Reminder: The word should not be a negative word unless it's "bad-ass", then it's totally cool)

If you are using my super handy brainstorm sheet above, then simply read the words and either highlight, star, or circle the words that seem to resonate with you the most.

4. Write Down Finalist Words and Choose the Final "One Word"

From there you will want to write down your finalists on your "My One Word Worksheet" and then narrow down the ONE WORD that really speaks to your heart...that truly embodies what you have envisioned.

(On a side note, many people have a hard time narrowing it down to one word...honestly, there is no right way to do this exercise. If you want to choose a few words and then every 3-4 months focus on a new word, then, by all means, do that, you rockstar!!! Do what works for you!)

See, choosing your ONE WORD is not a difficult and time-consuming process (heck, I think it's fun - & don't you dare doubt my fun factor!), and if you want to make it even easier, you can get both of these free ONE WORD PRINTABLES HERE!

Throughout the New Year, think about your word on a daily basis and constantly ask yourself if your actions and feelings are in alignment with your ONE WORD.

If they aren't, then take action and realign right away.

Truly feel your word and do something that embodies the meaning of your word.

Become your ONE WORD.

I promise it will help you truly stay focused on what your vision is for the New Year!

Stay tuned because I'll be giving you more "deets" (is this word still cool to say 🤷🏻‍♀️) about how to incorporate your ONE WORD into your life to ensure that 2021 is your best year "EVAH"!!

So until then, a toast to your ONE WORD and cheers to you SLAYING IT in 2021!🥂
