February is right around the corner, and we all know what that means...


Totally falling off the wagon with your New Year's Resolution?


Massive anxiety of what to buy your main squeeze for Valentine's Day??

No, no, and no! (well maybe yes, but those aren't the answers I'm looking for)


What I'm talking about is the 💖Month of Love!💖


Yes, it's true most of us spend many days of February thinking about ways we can show the ones we love most how much we care.


We plan romantic dates, buy gifts, and send cards.


But I have a question for you...


What do you have planned for the most important person in your life??


YOU!


If you are a busy Mama like me, doing nice things for yourself is normally at the end of your list (if it's on the list at all!) So this month I'm challenging you to do one nice thing for yourself EVERY. SINGLE. FREAKING. DAY.! (Can't pull off EVERY day, then try to give yourself some TLC at least once a week!)


Don't worry, buying expensive mink coats and planning a 10-day Bora Bora all-inclusive vaycay are not on the list!! (Are we even allowed in Bora Bora these days?)


Pretty much all of my suggestions can be accomplished in 10 minutes or less and will cost less than $10.


I'll be sharing a collection of small actions you can easily incorporate in your mom-sanity life that will help you feel better, more aligned, and all-around more like the Goddess you are!! Don't we all want a big dose of that??

Hair Thinning…

Hair Loss…


UGH!!! Something NO ONE wants to talk about…


Because honestly it’s embarrassing… and humbling…and frightening and a

TOTAL DOWNER!


Over the last two years, I have had some significant health challenges, specifically with my thyroid and my adrenals, and it took a toll on my hair.

There was a period of time when I was losing so much hair, I began to worry if I would get it to stop and if it would ever grow back. #whaaaa😭

The Good News is once I correctly diagnosed the problem and started treating the underlying condition, I was able to stop the shedding and start growing new, thicker hair! (Happy Dance!)


Bad News…it’s hair, and man, does it take a long time to grow back in!

Other Good News: I have learned SO MUCH during my journey, and I’d love to help anyone else who finds themselves in the same predicament.

So what should you do if you are experiencing abnormal amounts of hair loss?


Here are my top recommendations: ( PSA: I am not a doctor, and this is NOT medical advice, just a recap of what worked for me!)


1. Seek professional help…have your medical practitioner run the necessary tests to get to the root cause.


If I had not sought help from my holistic MD, I am not sure I would have been able to reverse my hair loss. Seriously, it was a TOTAL game changer...you have to know what's going on to remedy it!

2. Try something new:


There are so many things that can help…believe me because I tried pretty much all of them (including this unconventional exercise - See, I wasn't kidding when I said I tried everything!)

3. Take a deep breath and know you are not alone!


Feel free to email me ANYTIME if you need a little pep talk or advice, or someone just to listen…I’m totally serious about this. I 100% know what you are going through, and also know that you can heal and overcome this challenge!


Since I’ve been able to stop my hair loss, there are some things I now do pretty much every day to take EXTRA.GOOD.CARE. of my tresses.

For awhile I was buying expensive hair serums, masks, tonics, etc, and to be honest, I didn’t find that any of them were really making that big of a difference, so I started doing my own research to see if I could make my own that were as good IF NOT BETTER than the pricy ones I was using!

Over the last 14 years I have had a love affair with essential oils and have used them to basically treat any and every ailment:

  • Burns

  • Allergies

  • Headaches

  • Asthma

  • Cuts

  • Strep Throat

  • Acne

  • Nausea


You name it, I’ve probably used an essential oil for it (with the exception of broken bones or appendicitis, skip the essential oils for those and see a doc).


So I thought heck, there are probably essential oils that will help hair loss too, and low and behold there are!!

After doing some research, I discovered that there are quite a few oils that might help, and lucky me, my oils addiction paid off cause I had all of them!

Lavender

Rosemary

Cedarwood

Geranium


I also found quite a few different “recipes” to try and this is the one that has worked the best for me!


Here's how to make your own healthy hair growth spray:

1. Find an empty spray bottle. The one I used is a little over 4 oz.



2. Add 3 Tablespoons of (alcohol-free) witch hazel. (I bought mine off Amazon here)


Side Note: You can also use it as a facial toner - that’s what I call a versatile purchase!


3. Add 1 teaspoon hemp seed oil (I got this one off of Amazon…yep, lazy, online shopper here!)



4. Add the oils:


10 drops Lavender

10 drops Cedarwood

10 drops Geranium

10 drops Rosemary

If you do not have all of these oils, no stress, just use the ones you do have!


5. Fill the bottle with distilled water (I didn’t have any so, I just boiled some tap water and let it cool, then added it to the bottle - so that’s an option too)

6. Shake it up well and spray on the scalp area of your head. (Be sure to always shake it up before using!)


I normally massage it in a little with this little scalp massaging gadget, and then use a comb to spread it through the rest of my hair.


I use the spray on both wet or dry hair…just depends on what my mood is, but I try to use it every day!


Oh, and because you know I love me a good ole printable project, I also made a printable label to add to your spray bottle.

Definitely one of the most well-known movie quotes of all time, and also the philosophy I'm currently adopting for my sparse calendar. (see Exhibit A below)

If I buy it (a planner)...they will come (plans, activities, events).


It's funny how I used to wish life would slow down just a little bit, and then when all of it disappeared I now so desperately miss all of the craziness! (see January 2020 Craziness Calendar: Exhibit B)

It's no secret that I've been feeling down about the loss of pretty much everything I used to spend my time doing, and to ease some of that pain, I decided to make a big list of the things that I can't wait to do again.



Kind of like a gratitude list before it happens...


- taking a cruise

- watching karaoke

- cheering on the sidelines of my kids' sports

- listening to a live band play at a bar

- visiting an amusement park

- going to a movie theatre

- giving my friends a big ‘ole bear hug

- hosting a party INSIDE my house

- seeing a comedy show

- eating self-serve ice cream

- taking an airplane...anywhere!


Even little things like driving carpool seem like such a faded happy memory. (yes, I even miss carpool!)


Oh and self-serve ice cream, or getting free samples at Costco...man, I can't wait to do those things again one day!


Here's my finished list...



In some ways, it's a painful activity yet also poignant and cathartic.


I try to remind myself, that one day all of these things will feel "normal" again, and when they do, I don't want to EVER take a single one of them for granted.
